The British Side of Things

A look into the world of British Sitcoms featuring: The IT Crowd

Hi! Patrick here and today, we'll be taking a look into the world of British Sitcoms. From Monty Python to Black Books, British Sitcoms are famous for both their wittiness and absurdness all in the name of comedy. Today, we'll be taking a closer look at a particularly famous sitcom, The IT Crowd.

What's it about?

Set in the London offices of the fictional corporation Reynholm Industries, the show revolves around the three staff members of its IT department – the two technicians named Moss (Ayoade) and Roy (O'Dowd), and their manager Jen (Parkinson).

Any synopsis, such as the one above, often fall short in capturing what the show truly is about. Without spoiling much, I will attempt to capture the hilarity and genius of the show through a combination of gifs and short videos.

What makes it so unique?

I believe the crux of The IT Crowd is how it utilises the social awkwardness of the two IT members, Moss and Roy, in the dilemmas of a rather dull and boring life they have in the IT department  in every episode. Couple this with the quirks of other members and what you have is a dynamic interaction between characters that not only highlight the awkwardness of the main characters, but also capture the daily functions of the IT Department.

Things can go from finding a goth behind a door in their department to learning how to make dinner with a German cannibal. The absurdity of these situations compel you to simply burst out loud laughing.

That being said, I think the best method is to capture how awesome the IT Crowd is is through a short clip.

All in All

With 24 episodes across 4 seasons, The IT Crowd is sure to bring you tears of laughter as you venture through the episodes.

For my personal rating, I'd give it an overall 4/5.
